The call will be closed as soon as a candidate is successful, and no later than 5 June 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.futureearth.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Future Earth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is an international research program with a mission to accelerate transformations to global sustainability.\u00a0 Future Earth convenes researchers and scholars from all parts of the world, across different societal and academic sectors, and across the natural, social, and human sciences. Future Earth initiates and supports international collaboration between these researchers and stakeholders to identify and generate the integrated knowledge needed for successful transformations towards societies that provide good and fair lives for all within a stable and resilient Earth system. A key part of Future Earth\u2019s work occurs through our networks that generate research at the forefront of sustainability science and facilitate highly integrative sustainability research on key societal challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Secretariat for Future Earth encompasses <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Global Hubs located in Canada, China, France, India, Japan, South Africa, Sweden, Taipei, and the US. The Future Earth Secretariat provides coordination, facilitation and enabling services to Future Earth\u2019s community. The French Hub is administered by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and is hosted by Sorbonne University (Pierre et Marie Curie Campus). It is currently composed of six staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/france.futureearth.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">French Global Hub<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> focuses on advancing the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Science-Based Pathways for Sustainability<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> initiative, science-policy-society interface activities, and on supporting early career researchers. Its activities are framed by four core objectives:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Increase inclusivity and plurality of researchers involved in sustainability science (disciplines, approaches, regions, career stages);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support researchers\u2019 engagement in inter- and transdisciplinary research;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide researchers with spaces for reflection and experience sharing regarding sustainability science practices, challenges and progress;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promote transformative inter and transdisciplinary research in the sustainability science arena and at the science-society interface.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Task description<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Science Officer will work in a dynamic international setting on a range of issues. They will work in close interaction with the whole French Hub team to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Co-lead the organization of our annual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/france.futureearth.org\/french-global-hub\/autumn-school-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Autumn School <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on sustainability science;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work with the science-policy lead to coordinate activities, including event organization, liaison with other Secretariat Hubs, researchers, and science-policy platforms such as IPBES, IPCC, UNFCCC, CBD;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lead the coordination of the European National Committees for Future Earth;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Liaise with ocean-related Future Earth Global Research Networks;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develop communications related to the activities mentioned above (website, social media, newsletters, posters, leaflets, etc.).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The role is dynamic and will evolve in line with the requirements of the team in the French hub and the global Secretariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Candidate qualification requirements:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At least a Master\u2019s level degree either in sustainability science disciplines (natural or social sciences) or in environmental humanities. Expertise in ocean-related issues is considered as an advantage.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">0-3 years of experience (including PhD period or volunteering experience) related to sustainability issues. Experience in international teams is especially valuable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excellent command of English. Working knowledge of other languages is considered an advantage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excellent written and oral communication skills. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To evaluate writing skills, a test will be conducted as part of the selection process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Experience in digital communication is considered as an advantage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creative, curious, willing to learn and passionate about sustainability challenges.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excellent interpersonal skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excellent organizational skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well-developed sense of autonomy and ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Availability to travel within France and internationally.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Conditions<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The position will start as soon as possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1-year appointment, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Full-time French fixed term contract (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contrat \u00e0 dur\u00e9e d\u00e9termin\u00e9e <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> CDD<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Annual gross salary is in the order of 32-36k \u20ac<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Note: The successful candidate must imperatively be eligible to work in France (i.e. EU citizen or holder of valid French work permit) for the duration of the contract.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Application procedure<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants to this position are requested to submit an English language curriculum vitae and cover letter describing how their skills and experience would help them meet the requirements of the role.
