Small-scale farmers in the Global South are especially at risk, and efforts to adapt to climate change are currently insufficient. The objective for the food and agriculture sector is to make climate- resilient, sustainable agriculture. However, it is important to note, that this is not a \u201cone size fits all\u201d approach, as the sector\u2019s inherent diversity makes technologies and approaches for building long-term climate resilience very context specific.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-32559 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-357x500.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-357x500.png 357w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-731x1024.png 731w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-768x1075.png 768w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-1097x1536.png 1097w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23-214x300.png 214w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/SLMICs-Oct-23.png 1354w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/>The authors of the report \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cgspace.cgiar.org\/handle\/10568\/131852\">Achieving Agricultural Breakthrough: Deep Dive into Seven Technological Areas<\/a>\u201d delved into areas where there are tech innovations that can be scaled up for achieving breakthroughs in agriculture and food systems. The authors take a step further to assess these areas and approaches across five pathways that are quite interdependent:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Reducing unsustainable consumption where such consumption has harmful effects on health, climate and the environment.<\/li>\n<li>Increasing production of healthy and nutritious food without expanding agriculture into new lands and thereby preventing further deforestation.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing damage to natural resources, such as soil, water and biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing emissions, either absolute emissions or emissions intensity, with the ultimate aim of reducing absolute emissions.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritizing the needs and interests of smallholder farmers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The report goes on to make specific recommendations across five focus areas &#8211; climate finance; policies, regulations and innovations; standards and metrics; RD&amp;D; and trade and markets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-14016 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/aditi_mukerji-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"aditi_mukerji.jpg\" width=\"227\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/aditi_mukerji-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/aditi_mukerji-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/futureearth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/aditi_mukerji-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mukherji is a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/futureearth.org\/networks\/global-research-networks\/water-energy-food-nexus\/\">Food Water Energy Nexus Global Research Network<\/a> of Future Earth. Her research revolves around institutions and policies of water resources management and her areas of specialization are groundwater governance, energy-irrigation nexus and community management of water resources.\u00a0 She has worked in South Asia, Nile basin, and in Central Asia and is currently working in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region.<\/p>\n<p>Mukherji, A., C.
