The European Space Agency (ESA) and Future Earth are seeking a dynamic <strong>Research Coordinator<\/strong> to help bridge the gap between cutting-edge satellite data and global sustainability science.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Role<\/strong><br \/>\nAs <strong>Research Coordinator<\/strong>, you will act as a key liaison between the<strong> ESA Climate team<\/strong> and the <strong>Future Earth Global Secretariat<\/strong>. You will foster stronger links between ESA\u2019s Earth observation initiatives and Future Earth\u2019s global research networks \u2014 driving forward the use of satellite data and working at the science-policy interface for sustainability and climate<br \/>\naction.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be based at ESA\u2019s ECSAT facility in Oxfordshire, with regular travel to Stockholm and international meetings. This role offers the opportunity to identify and coordinate new scientific activities, work at the intersection of science, policy, and innovation, engage with world-leading researchers and support impactful communication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Connect ESA programs with Future Earth\u2019s Global Research Networks.<br \/>\n\u2022 Collaborate with scientific steering committees, support workshops, and facilitate cross-network communication.<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop joint activities that expand the use of ESA Earth Observation (EO) data.<br \/>\n\u2022 Manage budgets and reporting for joint initiatives.<br \/>\n\u2022 Represent ESA and Future Earth at international events.<br \/>\n\u2022 Act as an interface between the ESA Climate Change Initiative (CCI) and the research community to enhance scientific uptake of EO data.<br \/>\n\u2022 Promote project outcomes via conferences, websites newsletters, and scientific literature.<br \/>\n\u2022 Support ESA and Future Earth involvement in key international events (e.g. UNFCCC COPs and research dialogues).<br \/>\n\u2022 Provide strategic insight to align research outputs with global environmental and climate policy needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Skills &amp; Experience:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 PhD in Earth Sciences, or 3\u20135 years of equivalent research experience.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strong understanding of Earth observation and global environmental change research.<br \/>\n\u2022 Research experience with use of ESA EO data and application.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Fluent in English (written and verbal); other languages are a plus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desirable Qualifications:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Familiarity with Future Earth\u2019s mission and its Global Research Networks.<br \/>\n\u2022 Insight into international climate policy processes.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience managing grants, budgets, and working in interdisciplinary teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conditions<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 You must be eligible to live and work in the UK<br \/>\n\u2022 The successful candidate will not be an employee of ESA or Future Earth but will engage via a consultancy or own company through a general service agreement.<br \/>\n\u2022 You must be willing to undertake regular international travel and participate in international online meetings which at times will be outside of regular working hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Partnership<\/strong><br \/>\nThis role is at the heart of a strategic partnership between ESA and Future Earth, aimed at transforming how Earth observation data supports sustainability science.
